Puerto Vallarta is a city and one of the 125 sities in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. Vallarta is located in the North Coast Region of the state. Its northern border state in Nayarit, south with the municipality of Cabo Corrientes and Talpa de Allende, on the east to San Sebastian and pet and west by the Pacific Ocean.

In 2005, it had an estimated population of 220,368 people and five million tourists a year. Together with the municipality of Bahia de Banderas Nayarit state, forms the metropolitan area of Puerto Vallarta which has 304,107 inhabitants, making it the second most populous in both states. The municipality is also one of the greatest population growth recorded in the state, even larger than the central municipalities.

It is the second most important economic area of the state of Jalisco and the third largest port in Mexico.

It is now one of the most visited places in the country.
